Jamila Woods - "Giovanni”
Jamila Woods has shared a video for a new song titled “Giovanni.” The video, which she co-directed with Vincent Martell, features her family. The track was inspired by poet and activist Nikki Giovanni and references her 1970s poem “Ego Tripping.” In a press release, Woods said, “‘Giovanni’ is a song about owning & celebrating all the parts of myself. It’s about legacy and lineage, and how the love & strength of the people who made me makes me feel invincible.” Watch the 9-minute “Giovanni” clip below (via The Poetry Foundation).
“Giovanni” follows Jamila Woods’ 2016 solo debut HEAVN, which featured Chance the Rapper, Saba, Kweku Collins, and others.
