“The Magnificent Judy”
THE MAGNIFICENT JUDY is a short film directed by Zach Moore that blends live action with stop-motion animation.
The Magnificent Judy Synopsis: As Judy binges her favorite animated show “The Magnificent Meridian Swift” things get bizarre when Barnabas the Beastly Beaver, one of Meridian Swift’s most fearsome foes, escapes from the screen and shows up in person. With no one else around to put an end to his mischief, Judy is the only one who can stop him!
Before production, the film was fully boarded and timed out in the form of an animatic. Two shoot days were then excecuted with percision to allow for a successful post-production process. Without great attention to detail during filming, compositing Barnabas’ animated body into a live action scene would have been very challenging.
You can view a VFX breakdown below to see how it was done!
During scripting it was quickly understood that the world of Judy’s hero would need to be fully realized before filming began.
A list of enemies and a fully fleshed out origin story were developed and incorporated into the film via set design, props, and more!
A 30 second intro for the “Meridian Swift” series was even included to better establish the character’s that Judy loves.
